2008

Well, we've been working diligently these past couple of weeks on the "Classic" style set in the designer. We are happy to announce that we've now doubled or tripled the number of color choices available on most component types and have introduced some exciting new designs.

Our goal with the "Classic" style set is to create design components which will not go out of style in a few months, or become boring, or agressive to the eye. The idea is to use solid consistent design patterns which have been proven to work over the past years of web design. In classic you won't find any photographs, or crazy swirly patterns, or even super trendy big glass buttons. Don't worry, you can find all those cool things in other style sets.

Some good examples of new classic designs we have recently added include the new background patterns "stripes", "squares" and "film grain".

Be sure to checkout the new components and colors in Classic, maybe they will work for your site!

Thu, 21 Feb 2008 02:01:36 GMTThe internet company from a tiny country in is, perhaps, a bit different than most internet technology start ups. Geographical media started as Rhythm Ltd. in the village of Brikama in The Gambia, West Africa. Brikama is a little different than silicon valley, there are no super internet hubs, venture capital investment firms, or buzzing pools of highly trained technology geeks. In fact, in 2006 when we started there wasn't much at all that suggested it was a good place to build a new, modern, internet publishing system from the ground up. However, we had electricity for at least a few hours every day, and sometimes running water, so we decided to move forward and invest in The Gambia.

There are things about living and working in a place like West Africa that you may never find in the "usual" places. Most importantly, you get perspective. Like, lets make this even lighter and faster, because at the internet cafe down the street they only have a dialup, and it loads too slow. Or when you make an arrangement with an editor to give a newspaper a new website, and after you can't get a hold of him for a few weeks discover he's been exiled to another country. On the other hand, you get perspective. Like the super vibrant colors of the sky, the plants, the birds and the people. Or when members of the team bring their families to our company parties.

"Please try to keep the goats, cows, pigs and chickens out of the garden."

While today things look a little different than when we first started, it has been our diverse view of the world, and our diverse team on the ground, which has led us to .geographical media, and the idea's we've put into it. We’ve opened in Canada, and all sites are hosted in secure data centers in North America, but beside writing some unusual memo’s, "Please try to keep the goats, cows, pigs and chickens out of the garden.", we are actively developing new features, styles and communities for .geographical media from here in The Gambia.

We hope that you will enjoy what we’ve created, and try using our product for your website or blog. We welcome your comments, or suggestions to help make this product that much better.

Mon, 11 Feb 2008 12:07:32 GMT
